The National Opera began work to bring the musical delights of the 119th season to the audience, and rehearsals for the season's first new production, Georges Bizet's passionate opera "Carmen", have already begun.
Arvo Volmer, the theatre's artistic director and chief conductor, and Linnar Looris, the artistic director of the Estonian National Ballet, will continue their new term. For the National Ballet director, the key to creative achievements lies in a person's character: "We are all talented, but character determines if we can potentially realize it!".
New season offers excellent examples of this, when a lot of different creations come to the stage, including originals such as Marina Kesler's ballet production "The Lizard" to the music of Lepo Sumera and Märt-Matis Lill and the ballet "Light from the End of the World" by Jevgeni Grib and Alisson Kruusmaa.
Bizet's opera "Carmen", directed by Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau (France) and Strauss's legendary operetta "Die Fledermaus" in Andrus Vaarik's new version will be added to the repertoire of the opera department.
In the middle of the season, the co-production "Pulcinella" & "L’Heure Espagnol" was presented to the audience based on two different works and in cooperation with the Paris Opéra Comique. The cross-genre collaborative project consisting of a short ballet interspersed with Stravinsky's opera and a short dance opera by Ravel is presented by the award-winning French film and theatre director Guillaume Gallienne.
The National Opera thanks its audience and supporters for continued co-creation!
See you in Estonian National Opera!
