During the recently concluded tour to Spain, the Estonian National Ballet troupe gave guest performances of “Le Corsaire” at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, where 5,400 theatre lovers came to enjoy Estonian ballet. The tour was supported by the Estonian National Opera’s main sponsor Liviko.

According to Linnar Looris, the artistic director of the National Ballet, there is reason to be proud and happy. “The Estonian National Ballet performed at the highest level. All performances were sold out and the audience reception was fantastic: our dancers and conductor Kaspar Mänd did a great job on the international theatre scene!”

The troupe was brought to Spain by the agency Donald Scrimgeour Artists, whose agent Donald Scrimgeour López noticed “Le Corsaire” by the ballet director of the Paris Opera, José Martinez, from Spain, in the repertoire of the Estonian National Opera. “Now we were able to present the version of this work set by a famous local Spaniard to his compatriots – it was a victory for all of us,” noted the ballet director. According to Looris, the Estonian National Ballet is already looking forward to new tours, and the theatres of Barcelona and Madrid have also shown interest in the same production. “Hopefully we will be back in Spain soon,” believes the ballet director. The theatre itself is also interested in this: introducing its activities abroad is one of the tasks set out in the Estonian National Opera Act, and the next tours are already being prepared.

The National Ballet was accompanied by an 84-member troupe and technical team to Spain for an artistic visit. The main roles in the ballet “Le Corsaire” were danced in Seville by Anna Roberta, Ami Morita, Ketlin Oja, Laura Maya, Akane Ichii, Joel Alexander Calstar-Fisher, William Newton, Ali Urata, Finn Adams, Cristiano Principato. The local orchestra was conducted by the Estonian National Opera conductor Kaspar Mänd.
