In January, the Ministry of Culture of Estonia issued the awards for the Kultuurisõber 2025 (Friend of Culture), which acknowledges companies and patrons who have contributed to the field of culture in Estonia. Among others, the candidate nominated by the Estonian National Opera, the British dance researcher Stuart Sweeney, was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the development of Estonian dance art, the promotion of international cooperation and the increase in the international visibility of Estonian cultural life.
The artistic director of the Estonian National Ballet, Linnar Looris, presented the Ministry of Culture's honorary certificate after today's performance of "The Corsair" and to the loud applause of the audience.
Stuart Sweeney, as a private individual, supported the staging of Part I of the production "Forsythe & Looris", William Forsythe's ballet "In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated". According to Stuart Sweeney, who received the national recognition, he hopes that his act will also inspire other people interested in Estonian culture to become supporters of the Estonian National Opera.
Congratulations, and many, many thanks, dear Stuart!
