ENTRANCES TO THE ESTONIA THEATER

 

SIIA SAAB

  • From 2016 the Estonia theater has been acknowledged by the Estonian Gender Equality and Equal Treatment Commissioner with the SIIA SAAB badge. The badge indicates organizations with an open and accessible environment for everyone.

 

    ACCESSIBILITY FOR THEATER GUESTS WITH MOBILITY IMPAIRMENT OR IN WHEELCHAIR

  • Visitors with mobility impairment or in wheelchair can park their car comfortably by the theater house on G. Otsa street, where are two designated parking slots just next to the theater house.
  • You can enter the theater via inclined plane, which is located left from the main entrance and leads to automated doors (will open automatically). The access through this door is straight to the theater’s lobby, where also the box-office is located.
  • Person in a wheelchair can move around the public space without assistance. Theater house has an elevator to access different floors and inclined planes which connect spaces on different levels. Easy access is granted to the theater hall and cafeterias (White Hall on the 2-floor and Colombina on the 0 floor).
  • The Estonia restaurant is also accessible by wheelchair from the restaurant doors in the front of the building, which lead to the cloakroom and the restaurant without any stairs on the path.
  • For a person in wheelchair the best possible area is made availbale in the theater hall. There is room for 4 wheelchairs in the theater hall. In order to provide the visitor in a wheelchair with the best possible experience, kindly inform about the visitor in a wheelchair in advance upon booking or purchasing the ticket.
  • Accessible toilet is located on the 0 floor.         
  • NB! Unfortunately the access to the Chamber Hall is complicated for a person in a wheelchair and there is no accessible toilet near the Chamber Hall.

ACCESSIBILITY FOR THEATER GUESTS WITH IMPAIRED VISION

  • For visitors with impaired vision or who are blind, there are tactile signs available in the public space, for example tactile buttons in the elevator.
  • The elevator has voice announcements informing about the route of the elevator and about opening/closing of elevator doors.
  • The public spaces are well lit.

ACCESSIBILITY FOR THEATER GUESTS WITH IMPAIRED HEARING

  • For visitors with impaired hearing we have in the theater hall a title machine (located above the stage) and screens in the theater hall, which show the text of the songs and speeches performed on the stage during the performance and other relevant information. The text is in Estonian and in English language.
  • The public spaces are well lit and there are guiding signs in the public spaces to assist with finding the way.

PERFORMANCE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH AUTISM OR INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

For children and youth with autism or intellectual disability the Estonian National Opera has produced the performance „Ballet Story – A Sensory Friendly Relaxed Performance“. Relaxed performance is created for people for whom visiting a theater may feel scary and complicated and who need a more relaxed environment. First and foremost, it is created for people with autism or intellectual disability.

 

BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THE THEATER

  • The Estonian National Opera offers a variety of performances and educational programs for children and youth. The performance begin also during day time, so the children don’t get tired.
  • If you bring your child to the theater, make sure your child is ready for it and prepare your child for the visit, so that your child’s theater experience would be as wonderful and memorable as possible.
  • Choose for your visit with a child a performance which is age appropriate and endurable for the child. Performances meant for adults are usually not appropriate for children under 5 years old. To assist you in your choice making, we have added a recommended age limit to performances’ introduction pages.
  • It is possible to borrow seat cushions for children from the cloakroom prior to the performance and during intermission. The seat cushions are free of charge and in limited amount.
  • In the toilet on the 0 floor, there is a designated space for diaper change for babies.

ACCESS TO THE ESTONIA THEATER VIA PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

PARKING BY THE ESTONIA THEATER

  • Short-term parking by the theater to purchase tickets from the box-office
    • If you wish to purchase tickets from the theater’s box-office, there are two designate parking slots by the parking lot entrance on the Tammsaare park side. You can park free of charge for 15 minutes. Parking is organized by EuroPark.
  • SNABB parking
    • For all Estonian National Opera’s ticket holders we have a special offer for  Snabbi parking: 50% discount parking in the Kaarli pst 2 parking lot by the Freedom Square. Price 2.75€/h and 12.5€/24h.
    • To activate the discount, start parking in the Snabb app and scan with the app the barcode on the ticket or insert the ticket’s unique code (for example #W123456789012) to the Snabb apps bonus code space.

    • If there are free spaces available, it is also possible to park in the parking lot by the theater house using Snabb app.

MAGNIFYING THE CONTENT OF THE WEBPAGE OF THE ESTONIAN NATIONAL OPERA

To magnify the content of the Estonian National Opera’s webpage www.opera.ee, in order to improve the ability to read, see or browse, there are several options, which you can try and choose the best option for you:

  • Use the functionality built in the web browsers

To magnify the content of the webpage www.opera.ee we recommend using the functionality built in the web browsers. Most web browsers enable to maximize and minimize the page by holding down the Crtl key (in OS X operation systems, the Cmd key) and pressing  the + or – key. Another option is to use the mouse: while holding down the Ctrl key scroll, move the scroller on the mouse. You can return to the standard size by simultaneously holding down the Ctrl and 0 keys. 

In order to magnify the page the web browsers also have extensions, which enable this functionality. For example the Firefox browser has „Zoom page“ extension, which enables to magnify either the whole page or only the text; Chrome browser has AutoZoom extension for this functionality.

  • Use separate programs

All widely used operation systems have settings to magnify the content on the screen.

  • In Windows 7, you can find a program called Magnifier if you click on the "Start" menu button at the bottom left, type Magnifier (just the first few letters are enough) and press Enter. A small window will open in which everything is magnified. By default, the program tracks the position of the mouse cursor.
  • o In Windows 10, to open it, you have to click on the button with the Windows logo on the lower left and at the same time press the plus sign (+) button on the keyboard as many times as you want to enlarge the content. To reduce the size of the content, simultaneously press the Windows logo button and the minus sign (-) button on the keyboard
  • o On Apple computers, to use zoom, navigate to: Apple menu > System Preferences > Accessibility (or Universal Access) > Zoom.
  • Use a screen reader

A screen reader is a program that tries to interpret what is displayed on the computer screen and convey it in other forms - for example, as sounds, audio commentary. In particular, it is an aid for the visually impaired.
