Andris Ludvigs

Andris Ludvigs earned a master’s degree from the Vocal Department at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He later trained at vocal masterclasses with Regina Macute, Barbro Marklund-Pētersone, and Liv Jansen.
 
Andris Ludvigs performed at the closing concert of Inese Galante’s “Summertime” festival in 2008; he has also performed at the Garezers American-Latvian centre in Michigan, in the United States (2007), and was a soloist at the IX Latvian Youth Song and Dance Festival (2005). Andris  Ludvigs has performed the roles of Fritz (Mascagni’s “L’amico Fritz”) and Bertel (Blech’s “Versiegelt”), both for the Opera Studio Figaro.

He made his debut at the Latvian National Opera as Nemorino in Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” in 2009. His repertoire includes the title role in Wagner’s “Tannhäuser”, Don José (Bizet’s “Carmen”), Puccini’s Cavaradossi (“Tosca”), Pinkerton (“Madama Butterfly”), Luigi (“Il tabarro”), Tots (Kalnins’s “I Played, I Danced”), Ivan Lykov (Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride”), Raitis (Skulte’s “The Heiress of Vilkači”), Don Ottavio (Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”), Ismaele (Verdi “Nabucco”) and Froh (Wagner’s “Das Rheingold”).

Andris Ludvigs has sung at the National Theatre in Zagreb, Alfredo in Verdi’s “La traviata” at the Lithuanian National Opera, and the Estonian National Opera. He has performed at the Royal Opera House Muscat, at the Minsk Opera Festival, in the concert halls of New York, Toronto, Lisbon, Minsk and Saint Petersburg.

Andris Ludvigs is a laureate of the annual Latvijas Gāze Award as the Best Opera Soloist of the Year (2010).
