Dragutin Matić

EDUCATION AND WORK
Serbian baritone Dragutin Matić began his vocal studies after initially pursuing a degree in law. He trained with baritone Slobodan Stanković and later studied at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade under the guidance of soprano Radmila Bakočević. He continued his education at the University of Music in Würzburg, Germany, studying with Professors Leandra Overmann and Cheryl Studer. He made his operatic debut at the National Theatre in Belgrade in 2012 as Count di Luna in Verdi’s “Il trovatore”. Since then, he has established himself as one of the leading Verdi baritones of his generation. In 2020, he became a permanent principal artist at the National Theatre in Belgrade. Matić has performed at major venues across Europe, including Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, Teatro Politeama in Catanzaro (Italy), Thurn und Taxis Schlossfestspiele in Regensburg (Germany), the National Theatres in Brno and Ostrava, and the Smetana Litomyšl Festival (Czech Republic). He has also appeared at the Romanian National Opera in Timișoara, the Polish National Opera in Wrocław, and the national theatres in Tirana (Albania), Baku (Azerbaijan), and Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
