EDUCATION AND WORK
Renato Theobaldo is a Brazilian graduate from the Faculdade de Arquitetura de São Paulo, who debuted as a set designer in the film “A Estrela Nua” in 1983, which received the Best Scenario award at the Cine-Rio Festival. In the 80s and 90s, he branched off as art director in productions such as “A Garota das Telas”, winner of the Havana Festival and “Alma Corsária”, winner of the Brasília Festival. The following year he became the set designer for the Vai-Vai samba association that won an award at the São Paulo Carnival in 1993. It was in 1996 that Renato Theobaldo designed his first opera set, Pergolesi’s “La Serva Padrona”. For the next eight subsequent years he developed sets for the Festival Amazonas de Opera in Manaus.
