This summer, the historic building of the Estonian National Opera is open to visitors between noon and 5 p.m. from 1 July to 31 July. Visitors will be able to explore the foyer, the Theatre Hall, the White Hall, the Blue Hall, the walkway, and the exhibition space of the theatre, which was built in 1913. In the exhibition space, we offer you a ballet themed photo exhibition by Rünno Lahesoo and an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the grand old man of Estonian scenography, Eldor Renter.
Established in 1906, the Estonia Theatre has grown into the country’s largest musical theatre, staging opera, ballet, operetta, and musical productions, hosting concerts, and offering a wide range of other exciting events. At the same time, it is also a historic symbol for Estonians. It was here that the nation’s first parliament was assembled in 1919, where the Congress of Estonia convened in 1990 to restore the Republic of Estonia, where the President of Estonia holds his ceremonial reception on Independence Day, and where distinguished guests are hosted. Just as important as the celebrations, or even more important, are the days when the Estonia Theatre is full of music, providing an inexhaustible cultural resource for locals and tourists alike.
